Employee killed in West Covina liquor store robbery, shooting


A clerk was fatally shot while confronting two suspected thieves at a West Covina liquor store Sunday night, police said.

The shooting was reported at Big Bob’s Liquor and Market at about 8:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of West Puente Avenue.

Officers arrived to find the 34-year-old employee suffering from gunshot wounds outside the store.

The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed two men entered the store and stole merchandise. The clerk confronted the men and at least one shot at the victim, authorities said.

The suspects were believed to have fled the scene in a white SUV.
